Hospital Inpatient Stop Smoking Service
smokefree_hospital_clrStopping smoking before you go in to hospital is one of the best things you can do to reduce the chances of anything going wrong. There will be less chance of complications & better wound healing.

It is recommended that you stop at least 8 weeks before an operation.

With most hospital sites (including the grounds) being smokefree, a lot of people find that going into hospital is a great opportunity to stop smoking, but even if you are not ready to quit you can get Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to help with any withdrawl symptoms that you may experience during your hospital stay.

If you would like to make plans to stop smoking before you come into hospital then please contact your local stop smoking service or contact the hospital you are coming into and speak to the advisor.  See contact details below:

A trained Stop Smoking Advisor will visit you at your bedside to guide and support you through your quit attempt - this may include organising Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). You will also go home with a supply of NRT and information on how to continue to get NRT through your local community pharmacy or GP.
