Bupoprion hydrochloride (Zyban®) is a medicine that changes the way your body responds to nicotine. Zyban® has been shown to be effective and has helped many smokers to stop; unlike NRT it does not contain nicotine.

Zyban® reduces your craving for a cigarette and helps take the edge off the withdrawal symptoms; it also reduces the effect you feel if you do have a cigarette. It is not suitable for everyone and is only available on prescription from your GP and not if you are pregnant.

A full medical history needs to be taken before it is prescribed. Zyban can react with a number of medicines including ones that can be bought without prescription therefore it is important to let your GP know of any medication that you are taking
